Important: This guide is general educational information. Rules, forms, thresholds, fees and due dates can change. Verify current requirements with the official source and obtain advice for your facts.

Separate business and personal money

Use dedicated business banking and record owner contributions, drawings, reimbursements and loans clearly. Mixing funds hides performance and makes tax, lender and partner discussions harder.

Build a rolling cash-flow view

Track expected collections, supplier payments, payroll, tax, loan instalments and planned purchases. A profitable business can still face a cash shortage when receipts and payments fall in different periods.

Create reserves and protection

Review resilience before committing all surplus to expansion.

  • Emergency operating reserve
  • Tax and statutory-payment reserve
  • Insurance for relevant people, assets and liabilities
  • Contingency plan for key customers, suppliers or equipment

Review debt and investments separately

Business borrowing should have a clear purpose, repayment source and sensitivity check. Personal and business investments should be assessed for risk, liquidity, regulation and suitability; returns are never guaranteed merely because a product is marketed as popular.

Frequently asked questions

At least monthly, and more frequently when collections are uncertain, growth is rapid or cash balances are tight.

Not automatically. Balance growth needs with reserves, owner goals, taxes, debt and concentration risk.
